THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD

Feast

INTRODUCTION

AUGUST 6, 2023

Good noon/afternoon Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

We are now in the 18th Sunday in ordinary time.

Today we celebrate the "Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord." This feast reminds us that we need our suffering and sacrifices so that we can enter the Kingdom of God.

We also celebrate today the Feast day of St. John Baptist Marie Vianney, the Patron saint of all the Priest.

The First Reading is taken from the Book of Prophet Daniel. "Daniel saw like a man in the clouds, giving Him the Power, Glory and Kingdom so that he can serve his people endlessly and his kingdom never ends."

The Second Reading is taken from Second Letter of St. Peter. It says, "We deeply believe the prophet's preaching to us, like a lamp that lights our way."

The gospel is taken from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. God reveals His son saying, "This is my beloved Son, Whom shall I pleased, Listen to Him."

Let us all stand to begin the Eucharistic celebration.

FIRST READING

Dn. 7:9-10, 13-14

His clothing was snow bright.

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Daniel

As I watched: A Thrones were set up and the Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was snow bright, with wheels of burning fire.

A surging stream of fire and the hair on his head as white as wool; his throne was flames of fire, flowed out from where he sat; thousands upon thousands were ministering to him, and myriads upon myriads attended him. The court was convened and the books were opened.

As the visions during the night continued, I saw one like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; when he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the one like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.

The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad. Clouds and darkness are round about him; justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

SECOND READING

2Ptr.1:16-19

We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven.

Beloved:

We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you

the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.

For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory,

"This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable.

You will do well to be attentive to it,

as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

GOSPEL

Mt. 17:1-9

His face shone like the sun.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Lord, it is good that we are here.

If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him."

When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid.

But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and do not be afraid." And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, "Do not tell the vision to anyone

until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

Prayers of the Faithful

August 6, 2023

Priest: Our Heavenly Father truly manifest His being a true God through the transfiguration of the image of Jesus His beloved Son who He pleased. In every prayer we say:

GOD OF GLORY, HEAR US YOUR PEOPLE.

1. For the Holy Father Pope Francis, the bishops, priests and religious men and women may the light of Christ strengthen and inspires them to love and serve the people of God. Let us pray to the Lord

2. For our civil leaders may the Christian Spirit of service enlightens them what is good for the people entrusted to them. Let us pray to the Lord.

3. For the Gagmay'ng Kristohanong Katilingban or GKK may the light of Christ showers them compassion and truthfulness in their words and actions being as steward of the Lord's vineyard. Let us pray to the Lord.

4. For all the sick at home and in the hospitals may the transfigure Christ heal and comfort them in their pain and suffering. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. For the faithful who offered their thanksgiving and praise to God especially _____________, may they experience Jesus love and generosity. Let us pray to the Lord.

6. For the faithful departed especially ________________, may be granted with life everlasting. Let us pray to the Lord. 

PRIEST: Loving God, make our offering Holy like the transfiguration of the face of your only Son. Cleanse our sins in your mercy and love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
