FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

INTRODUCTION

MARCH 10, 2024

Good noon/afternoon brothers in Christ.

We are now in the 4th Sunday of Lent.

This Sunday is also called Laetare Sunday.

The first reading is taken from Second Book of Chronicles. It is stated in this account that "all the princess of Judah, the priests, and the people added infidelity to infidelity..."

The second reading is taken from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians. He said to them, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you, it is the gift of God.

The Gospel is taken from the Holy Gospel according to John. John narrates in this account the great love of the Father by giving His Only Begotten Son to the world.

Let us all stand to begin the Eucharistic celebration.

Responsorial Psalm: Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you.

Prayer of the Faithful: Lord, graciously hear us.

FIRST READING

2Chr. 36:14-16, 19-23

The wrath and the mercy of the Lord are revealed in the exile and liberation of his people.

A reading from the second Book of Chronicles

In those days, all the princes of Judah, the priests, and I" the people added infidelity to infidelity, practicing all the abominations of the nations and polluting the LORD's temple which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

Early and often did the LORD, the God of their fathers, send his messengers to them, for he had compassion on his people and his dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised his warnings, and scoffed at his prophets, until the anger of the LORD against his people was so inflamed that there was no remedy. Their enemies burnt the house of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, set all its palaces afire, and destroyed all its precious objects.

Those who escaped the sword were carried captive to Babylon, where they became servants of the king of the Chaldeans and his sons until the kingdom of the Persians came to power.

All this was to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah:

"Until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths, during all the time it lies waste it shall have rest while seventy years are fulfilled."

In the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD inspired King Cyrus of Persia to issue this proclamation throughout his kingdom, both by word of mouth and in writing:

"Thus says Cyrus, king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the LORD, the God of heaven, has given to me, and he has also charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

Whoever, therefore, among you belongs to any part of his people, let him go up, and may his God be with him!"

Ps 137:1-2, 3, 4-5,6

By the streams of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. On the aspens of that land we hung up our harps.

For there our captors asked of us the lyrics of our songs, and our despoilers urged us to be joyous: "Sing for us the songs of Zion!"

R. Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!

How could we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land? If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand be forgotten!

R. Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!

May my tongue cleave to my palate if I remember you not, if I place not Jerusalem ahead of my joy.

SECOND READING

Ep. 2:4-10

Though dead in your transgressions, by grace you have been saved.

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians

Brothers and sisters:

God, who is rich in mercy,

because of the great love he had for us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ-by grace you have been saved-, raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast.

For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL 

Jn 3:16

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so everyone who believes in him might have eternal life.

GOSPEL

Jn. 3:14-21

God sent his Son so that the world might be saved through him.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to Nicodemus: "Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in so must the Son of Man be lifted up, the desert, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

MARCH 10, 2024

Priest : God's constant love for us is the source of hope for our salvation. Trusting in His merciful love, we pray:

LORD, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

1. For the Holy Father, the Bishops, priests, deacons and religious men and women, may they be filled with the love of God through the sacraments so that they will be able to make Jesus known to the faithful. Let us pray to the Lord.

2. For the civil leaders in our country, may receive God's abundance of grace to lead the people with justice, peace and love. let us pray to the Lord.

3. For all the parents and teachers, through the grace of God, may succeed in leading their children and students to appreciate God's love and respond to it with constant fidelity. Let us pray to the Lord.

4. For those who are entangled in the web of their bad habits, may they, in the example of the saints, find the encouragement they need to break

their chains. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. For the sick and dying, elderly, brokenhearted, abandoned, and the poor may find and experience Jesus' love, compassion and healing. Let us pray to the Lord.

6. For our brothers and sisters who have grateful hearts especially may become Jesus' instruments of love to others. Let us pray to the Lord.

7. For the souls of those who have gone ahead of us especially may receive forgiveness and eternal life in heaven. Let us pray to the Lord.

Priest: God of holiness and compassion, we thank You for Your merciful love. Keep us faithful to our commitments and make us instruments of Your saving love for our neighbor, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Karong Domingoha mao ang Ikaupat nga Domingo sa Kwaresma. Gitawag usab kini nga Laetare Sunday.

Ang unang pagbasa gikuha gikan sa Ikaduhang Basahon sa Cronicas. Kini nagkanayon, "Ang mga pangulo sa Juda, mga pari ug ang katawhan misamot pagkamasupilon."

Ang ikaduhang pagbasa gikuha gikan sa Sulat ni San Pablo ngadto sa taga-Efeso. Si San Pablo miingon kanila, "Kay pinaagi sa pagtuo naluwas kamo tungod sa grasya sa Dios.'

Ang ebanghelyo gikuha gikan sa Santos nga Ebanghelyo sumala ni San Juan. Kini nagsaysay mahitungod sa dakong gugma sa Dios sa tanang katawhan pinaagi sa paghatag sa Iyang Bugtong Anak.

Palihug manindog alang sa pagsugod sa Santos nga Eyukaristiya.

BASAHON I

2 Chr. 36:14-17, 19-23

KINUTLO GIKAN SA IKADUHANG BASAHON SA CRONICAS

Ang mga pangulo sa Juda, mga pari ug ang katawhan misamot pagka- masupilon. Gisunod nila ang tanang salawayong buhat sa kanasuran, ug gihugaw-hugawan nila ang Templo sa GINOO nga gibalaan niya didto sa Jerusalem.

Ang GINOO, ang Dios sa ilang mga katigulangan, nagsigig pahimangno kanila pinaagi sa iyang mga alagad, kay nahingawa man siya sa iyang katawhan ug sa iyang Templo, apan nagpadayon sila pagbugalbugal sa mga alagad sa Dios. Gitamay nila ang iyang mga pulong, ug gibugalbugalan ang iyang mga propeta ug dili na kini mapuypoy busa nasuko ang GINOO sa iyang katawhan.

Busa ang hari sa Babilonia giaghat sa GINOO sa pagsulong kanila ug gipamatay sa mga taga-Babilonia ang ilang mga batan-ong anak pinaagi sa gubat didto sa Templo sa GINOO. Wala niya sila kaloy-i, batan-on ug tigulang. Gitugyan niya silang tanan ngadto sa hari sa Babilonia.

Gisunog nila ang Templo, ug gigun- ob ang kota sa Jerusalem ug gisunog ang mga palasyo ug giguba ang mga maha- long galamiton. Gibihag sa hari ngadto sa Babilonia kadtong wala mamatay sa gubat ug gihimo sila nga sulugoon niya ug sa iyang mga anak hangtod nailog sa Persia ang iyang gingharian. Nahitabo kini aron matuman ang pulong sa GINOO pinaagi kang Jeremias, hangtod nga ang yuta makapahimulos sa mga Tuig nga Igpapahulay. Sa panahon nga gipamihag ang katawhan sa Juda naka- pahulay ang yuta sulod sa kapitoan ka tuig sumala sa gitagna ni propeta Jeremias.

Sa unang tuig ni Ciro, hari sa Persia, natuman ang pulong sa GINOO pinaagi kang Jeremias. Gidasig sa GINOO si Ciro sa paghimo niining kasugoan sa tibuok niyang gingharian:

"Nag-ingon si Ciro: 'Ang GINΟΟ, ang Dios sa langit, naghatag kanako sa tanang gingharian sa kalibutan ug gisugo niya ako pagtukod og usa ka templo alang kaniya didto sa Jerusalem nga sakop sa Juda. Bisag kinsa sa iyang katawhan makahimo pagpauli sa Juda ug mag-uban kaniya ang GINOO.'"

Eph. 2:4-10

KINUTLO GIKAN SA SULAT NI SAN PABLO NGADTO SA TAGA-EFESO

Apan hilabihan kadako ang kaluoy ug gugma sa Dios alang kanato, nga bisan pa gani sa patay pa kita sa espiritu tungod sa atong pagkadautan, gibanhaw kita niya uban kang Cristo. Naluwas kamo tungod sa grasya sa Dios. Ug sa atong pagkahiusa kang Cristo Jesus gibanhaw kita niya uban kang Cristo aron maghari kita uban kaniya didto sa kalangitan. Gibuhat kini niya aron pagpakita alang sa umaabot nga mga panahon sa naghingapin niyang grasya diha sa gugma nga iyang gipakita kanato pinaagi kang Cristo Jesus. Kay pinaagi sa pagtuo naluwas kamo tungod sa grasya sa Dios. Dili kini inyong buhat kondili gasa sa Dios. Busa walay maka- pasigarbo niini sanglit dili man kini bunga sa inyong mga paningkamot. Kita mga binuhat sa Dios, ug gibuhat kita niya diha kang Cristo Jesus aron magbuhat kitag maayo nga maoy iyang tuyo alang kanato.

Ang Dios hilabihan nga nahigugma sa kalibutan, nga iyang gihatag kanato ang iyang Bugtong Anak, aron ang tanan nga nagatuo kaniya makabaton sa kinabuhing dayon.

EBANGHELYO

Jn. 3:14-21

Kinutlo gikan sa Balaan nga Ebanghelyo sumala ni Juan

Si Jesus miingon kang S Nicodemo: "Ug sama nga gibayaw ni Moises ang bitin didto sa kamingawan, sa ingon usab kinahanglan ibayaw ang Anak sa Tawo aron ang tanan nga motuo diha kaniya makabaton og kinabuhing dayon.

"Kay gihigugma gayod sa Dios ang kalibutan sa ingon nga gihatag niya ang iyang bugtong Anak aron tanan ang nga nagatuo diha kaniya dili mamatay kondili makabaton og kinabuhing dayon. Kay wala gipadala sa Dios ang Anak dinhi sa kalibutan aron sa pag- hukom sa kalibutan, apan aron maluwas ang kalibutan pinaagi kaniya. Ang nagatuo diha kaniya dili pagahukman, ug ang wala nagatuo gihukman na, kay wala man siya motuo diha sa ngalan sa bugtong Anak sa Dios.

"Ug kini mao ang hukom, nga ang kahayag mianhi dinhi sa kalibutan, ug labawng nahigugma ang mga tawo sa kangitngit kaysa kahayag, tungod kay daotan man ang ilang mga buhat. Kay ang tanan nga nagabuhat og daotan nagadumot sa kahayag ug dili moduol sa kahayag aron dili mabutyag ang ilang mga buhat. Apan ang nagabuhat sa kamatuoran moduol ngadto sa kahayag aron makita ang iyang mga buhat, nga gibuhat diha sa Dios."
