THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

The readings given for Year A, n. 28, may be used in place of these.

INTRODUCTION

MARCH 3, 2024

Good morning brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today is the Third Sunday of Lent.

The first reading is taken from the Book of Genesis. This account narrates about the 10 Commandments of God.

The second reading is taken from the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians. Paul said to them that Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The Gospel is taken from the Holy Gospel according to John. We can hear Jesus saying, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up."

Let us all stand to begin the Eucharistic celebration.

Responsorial Psalm:

Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.

Lord, strengthen our faith in you.

FIRST READING

Exod. 20:1-17

A reading from the Book of Exodus

In those days, God delivered all these commandments: "I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.

You shall not have other gods besides me.

You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation; but bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.

"You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished the one who takes his name in vain.

"Remember to keep holy the sabbath day. Six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God.

No work may be done then either by you, or your son or daughter,

or your male or female slave, or your beast, or by the alien who lives with you.

In six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested.

That is why the LORD has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

"Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.

You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything else that belongs to him."

SECOND READING

1Cor. 1:22-25

We proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to many, but to those who are called, the wisdom of God.

A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians

Brothers and sisters: Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Since ince the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money changers seated there.

He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables, and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace."

His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me. At this the Jews answered and said to him,

"What sign can you show us for doing this?"

Jesus answered and said to them,

"Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up."

The Jews said,

"This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?"

But he was speaking about the temple of his body. Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing.

But Jesus would not trust himself to them because he knew them all, and did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

MARCH 3, 2024

Priest: Gathered together in the house of God to celebrate the most sacred act of worship, let us offer our petitions for our needs as we pray:

LORD, STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH IN YOU.

1. That Pope Francis, bishops, priests, deacons, and the consecrated men and women, may be filled with the Holy Spirit in spreading the Gospel and sanctifying the house of prayer. Let us pray to the Lord.

2. That the civil leaders may become instruments of Jesus' Word and Deed so that peace and love reign in their service to the people. Let us pray to the Lord.

3. That the poor, the sick, the elderly and the bereaved families of those who have died, may be strengthen in hope and trust in God. Let us pray to the Lord.

4. That the victims of various abuses may experience the presence of the Lord and have enough courage and hope every day. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. That those who have offered thanksgiving and [raises to God especially _________ may receive God's blessings and continue to be blessings to others. Let us pray to the Lord.

6. That our loved ones who have died, especially, ________ can enter the room that God has provided for them. Let us pray to the Lord.

Priest: Lord of all holiness, You want to dwell in our hearts as in a most precious temple. Renew in us the awareness of Your sanctifying presence, cleanse us from all our impurities, and reconsecrate us to your service for ever and ever. Amen.

Ang unang pagbasa gikuha gikan sa Basahon sa Genesis. Kini nagsaysay mahitungod sa napulo ka sugo sa Dios.

Ang ikaduhang pagbasa gikuha gikan sa Unang Sulat ni San Pablo ngadto sa taga-Corinto. Dinhi atong madungog si San Pablo nga nag-ingon, "si Cristo mao ang gahom ug ang kaalam, sa Dios."

Ang Ebanghelyo gikuha gikan sa Balaan nga Ebanghelyo sumala ni San Juan. Dinhi atong madungog si Jesus nga nag-ingon, "Gubaa kining maong templo, ug sulod sa tulo ka adlaw tukoron ko kini."

Ang mga Judio nagkinahanglan og mga milagro aron motuo sila, ug ang mga Griego nangita og kaalam. Apan alang kanamo, nagsangyaw kami kang Cristo nga gilansang sa krus, ug kining mensahia wala kahimut-i sa mga Judio ug giilang binuang sa mga dili Judio. Apan alang niadtong gitawag sa Dios, Judio siya o dili, si Cristo mao ang gahom ug ang kaalam sa Dios. Katilingbanong Pag-ampo

Pari: Niining atong pagsaulog sa labing balaang sagrado nga buhat sa pagsimba sa Dios, atong ihalad karon ngadto Kaniya ang atong mga pangamuyo alang sa katuyoan sa tanang katawhan, kita moingon: GINOO, LIG-ONA ANG AMONG PAGTUO KANIMO.

1. Nga ang mga lideres sa Simbahan ilabina si Papa Francisco, mga Obispo, kaparian, diyakono ug mga relihiyoso, mapuno unta sa Espiritu Santo diha sa ilang pagpakaylap sa Ebanghelyo ug pagbalaan sa balay alampuanan. Mag-ampo kita sa Ginoo.

2. Nga ang mga pangulo sa kanasuran, mamahimong instrumento sa Pulong ug Bu Buhat ug Buhat sa Dios aron maghari ang kalinaw ug gugma diha sa ilang pagpangalagad sa katawhan. Mag-ampo kita sa Ginoo.
